Pen & wash plan of a piece of land in Fore Street, Auckland, showing the land between Queen Street [Metropolitan Hotel] to a piece of land owned by G.S. Stewart Esq, bounded by a Lane. Signed by A.K. Churton, dated 1861 and notated in several places. 430 x 540 mm framed & mounted.
Signed off by Charles Heaphy, Provincial Land Surveyor, with explanatory notes, April 20th, 1861.
An interesting item relating to the early commercial hub of Auckland.
George. S. Graham’s work for the Royal Engineers involved public works, roads and military installations. Graham supervised the enlargement of the Albert Barracks and the construction of fortifications. He later became a politician and farmer being described by one newspaper as a noted Māori sympathiser.
