Winston Churchill Visits Bombed Bristol
Original press photograph of Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Photo with caption verso shows ‘Mr Churchill with Mr Winant and Mrs Churchill behind him, waves to the bombed people of the area with the words “We shall give it to them back”. Mr Winston Churchill visited Bristol only a few hours after German bombers had left the city after showering it with incendiaries. Later he shook hand with Civil Defence workers who still bore the signs of their ordeal only a few hours before’.
While he was in Bristol the Prime Minister conferred honorary law degrees on Mr. J.G. Winant and Mr R.G. Menzies, Australian Premier. Image clean and clear, 145 x 200mm, framed and mounted with museum quality glass.
The image also appeared in Time Magazines book 'Secrets of Genius' [2013].
