Barque 'Pamir'
The Pamir. Seized as a prize of war when it arrived in Wellington in August 1941 flying Finnish flag. Managed by Union Company throughout the war years and used as a sail training ship for young New Zealanders. Made nine voyages across the Pacific to North American west coast and one to London in 1948. Handed back to Finnish owners in November 1948. Subsequently lost with all hands.
Photograph is signed along the base by four of the New Zealanders who Captained the ship whilst in NZ hands. C.V. Stanich 28/2/1942 - 27/6/1943; David Mcleish [faded] 28/6/1945 - 21/2/1944; R. Champion 22/2/44 - 22/9/45; H.S. Collier Master [1946-1948].
