London: Hurst and Blackett, 1857. xxii, [1 l.,] 616p, tinted lithographed frontis and hand coloured folding map [complete, lightly foxed]. 230mm, paper splt along inside hinges, original blue pebble cloth worn, with piece missing from head of spine and lacking spine caps, contents generally clean sprinkle of light spasmodic foxing. Old owner’s stamp on title page [W.R. Garthorne, Hull].
The first edition, written by the surgeon and naturalist on Robert McClure’s Franklin search expedition aboard the HMS Investigator.
