dated ‘Sept 1st 1886’ in the artist’s hand, lower right, light toning & foxing
100 x 270 mm, framed & mounted
The artist made studies of lions at the London Zoo and at a menagerie at Margate. They were the basis for such paintings as ‘ A Royal Siesta’ his first lion picture exhibited with the Royal Academy in 1888.
