London: John Stockdale 1789, first edition. Portrait and engraved title page, 6p, errata, viii, x, [3]p list of plates, 298p, lxxiv, [2]p adverts. All plates and charts present, Charts of Sydney Cove and Norfolk Island have tears [no loss] where badly opened, some foxing and offsetting throughout mostly on plates and charts, text mainly clean. 285mm, bound in contemporary half calf, rebacked [amateurishly] using the original spine strip with gilt, original papered boards edges worn.
The first official account of the First Fleet, compiled by the publisher, from Phillip’s journal and reports. The title page is in the first state, with Henry Webber’s name to the Wedgwood medallion, and the caption to the plate facing page 150 is wulpine opossum (later corrected to vulpine). The plate facing page 106 is captioned Kangooroo), and page 122 has the uncorrected misnumbering 221.
