London: Published [For the Subscribers] by the Author, 1905. Two volumes. Volume I. L, 200p, frontis [portrait] 200p, illustrated, 5 hand-coloured plates. Volume II. 2 p.l., 178p, illustrated, 7 hand-coloured plates. Contents clean and plates crisp and bright 385mm, bound in original red buckram with gilt kiwi and gilt to spine, some fraying spine ends, and edge wear, else a VG set.
Provenance: The Deans family, pioneer farmers in Canterbury, New Zealand their Riccarton farm was the first permanent settlement by immigrants on the Canterbury Plains. The Deans brothers named the Christchurch River Avon after the stream on their grandfather's farm.
