Inscribed on endpaper 'For my dear Joyce with love from Barbara Freyberg. New Zealand Fernleaf Club London. Nov 1944 - Oct 1945'.
Also loosely enclosed a letter dated June 7th, 1951, 2p on Government House note paper from Barbara Freyberg to 'my sweet Joyce...'
She was born as Barbara Jekyll daughter of Colonel Sir Herbert Jekyll and Dame Agnes Graham Jekyll her first husband was killed in a flying accident and in 1922 she married Bernard Cyril Freyberg.
