PLEASE NOTE: The buyer’s premium for this auction is 19% of the hammer price plus GST on the buyer’s premium (total of 21.85% of the hammer price). This is to be paid on top of any successful bid. The buyer must pay the full amount due not later than 5 days after the auction date.
The absence of a condition report does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition (some items may be described with A/F, which means “all faults”). The estimates always reflect the condition of a lot. All property is sold “as is” without warranty of any kind by art+object. Bidders who are unable to inspect the items in person are welcome to request additional information at: info@artandobject.co.nz or 093544646.
Packing and courier options are available at buyer’s risk and expense. We’ll be in touch after the auction to arrange.
The link to our full Terms and Conditions can be found on the app menu or at the bottom of each page on the desktop website. We would recommend that first time and/or overseas bidders familiarise themselves with our Conditions, especially with our SUBJECT BIDS practice (point no. 11, which stands also for timed-online auctions).
_____________
Art+Object commences the 2024 summer auction season with a fascinating array of art exhibition posters. Collected from the 1950s up to the 1990s, it includes 300 posters from exhibitions that took place in France, Great Britain, Poland, Netherlands, Germany, the United States, Australia, and Aotearoa New Zealand. Among the highlights, the collection features a rare 1953 poster of the pioneer Pablo Picasso’s painting Les Demoiselles d’Avignon for the first retrospective of cubism in France at the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris. Besides being an insight into art trends of these years, these posters also give us perspectives on major societal and political debates of the time, illustrated, for instance, by the poster Artists For Peace – People for nuclear disarmament, an exhibition held at Mori Gallery in Sydney in 1985. Other iconic exhibition posters include Colin McCahon I Will Need Words, Philip Clairmont What Nuclear Family, Billy Apple Bid For Change!, Robyn Kahukiwa Mana Māori, Art Deco at the V&A, David Hockney at the V&A, Richard Avedon at Pace Gallery, Roy Lichtenstein at Leo Castelli Gallery, Black American Art at the Studio Museum of Harlem.
Please note that all posters are unframed and in vintage condition, many with tears and creases. Their condition is commensurate with age and use, but please feel free to examine them in person or request images of the damages. Contact info@artandobject.co.nz or ring reception 09 354 4646 if you require assistance, we are happy to provide condition reports and answer additional queries.
