This catalogue is headlined by one of Gordon Walters finest ever ‘Koru’ paintings, Koru (1971), which bares the esteemed provenance of being acquired from the artist by legendary New Zealand art dealer, Peter McLeavey. The painting featured in the recent ‘New Vision’ exhibition as well as the 1983 retrospective of the artist’s work curated by Michael Dunn. It is the largest ‘Koru’ painting the artist ever completed. Another highlight is one of Bill Hammond’s finest ‘Cave’ paintings, Signal Box: A Convocation of Eagles, Cave Painting No. 7.
The catalogue also includes the collection of the Fitzherbert Post-Impressionist Society art buying group whose collection includes works by Guy Ngan, John Pule, Hariata Ropata Tangahoe, Robert Ellis, Tony de Lautour and others. Further highlights include works by Billy Apple, Dave McCracken, Ralph Hotere, Fiona Pardington, Phil Price, Allen Maddox, Jacqueline Fraser and many more.
